Oltrepò Pavese, the Tuscany of the North of Italy

 In blog, Exquisite experience

Italy is full of great cities, art and history, as well as fantastic locations in the country, near rivers, lakes and by the sea.

Nevertheless, Italy is also often crowded with tourists and it’s not so easy to find some great spot to relax, enjoy the holiday and taste some great Italian food and wine.

We recently wrote about some lesser-known Italian vacation destination and in this occasion we want to explore with you the area known as Oltrepò Pavese, a gorgeous stretch of land in the southern Lombardy, part of the province of Pavia.

While not many tourists stop in the Oltrepò Pavese, this land is often called the Tuscany of the North of Italy because of its smooth hills that host many villages, medieval castles, great panoramic spots and, above all, lots of vineyards.

Oltrepò means literally “the other side of Pò” and when you pass the greatest Italian river, you will notice that the plain gives quickly way to the hills, creating the ideal area for grapevines.

The Oltrepò Pavese is home to so many great Italian wines: here you will find the sparkling and red Bonarda, the rare Buttafuoco (“fire thrower”, mind the name of this wine!), the notorious Pinot Nero and the lesser famous but delicious Sangue di Giuda (“Judas Blood”: Italian winemakers have great fantasy when they choose names).

However, let’s also talk about food: goose salamis, truffles, great cheeses like gorgonzola or taleggio, the pink asparagus, wild boar and mushrooms are only few of the great ingredients of the local cuisine, where rice is the king of the table.

Since it is not on tourist’s routes, the Oltrepò Pavese is still a very quiet and peaceful area but it has the advantage to be pretty close to Milan. You will be able to mix the peace of the country life with the shopping in the fashion capital of Italy, as well as spending some nights in clubs and pubs.

Italian Allegria can find for you the ideal mansion or villa in the Oltrepò Pavese and we can arrange for a chef to come by and cook for you.

You will not have to worry about anything at all, just enjoy the marvelous landscape, pass the afternoon lying around the pool, taste some fantastic cuisine and live like a prince.

And some of our locations are the ideal spot if you are searching for the right place to hold a corporate meeting or if you are travelling with a large group.

We have villas with up to eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, indoor pool, Turkish bath and hydro massage, billiard room, Wi-Fi, cinema room and a large garden.

You can experience all the beauty of the Tuscany of the North of Italy, far away from the chaos of the crowd, in a truly unique and luxurious holyday where everything is taken care of.
